  • Auxin is a plant hormone that regulates nearly all aspects of plant growth and development through binding to its receptor TIR1. We reported development of a synthetic auxin-engineered TIR1 pair based on a bump-and-hole strategy. The synthetic auxin successfully triggered auxin signaling in plant expressing engineered TIR1 without intruding endogenous auxin system. Furthermore, by harnessing this system, we provided conclusive evidence for the role of TIR1 in auxin-mediated acid growth, which had been a controversial issue in plant science for many years. Our system enables precise control of auxin signaling, which is applicable not only to fundamental research in auxin biology, but also to efficient food production.
