  • The facile replacement of heme c in cytochromes c with non-natural prosthetic groups has been difficult to achieve due to two thioether linkages between cysteine residues and the heme. This could be a cruicial drawback when considering of extensive application of cytochrome c to biomaterials in future. In this study, we prepared an engineered cytochrome c552 from a thermophile which exhibits facile replacement of the prosthetic group to an artificial one, which may a way to cytochrome c-based novel biomaterials
